Eligibility Requirements for ACHEC Accreditation

To be eligible for accreditation by ACHEC, an educational institution must meet the following requirements:

  1. Formal or Distance Learning Establishment
The institution must be a recognized formal or distance learning establishment offering certificates, diplomas, or degrees at all levels.
  2. Active Learning Community
The institution must have an identified body of individuals actively participating in a prescribed learning format and setting. Programs offered must include clearly interactive educational components that align with the subject matter and expected learning outcomes.
  3. Continuous and Successful Operation
The institution must demonstrate continuous, ongoing, and successful operation in delivering education or training programs for at least one consecutive year immediately prior to application. At a minimum, one graduating class must have completed their program.
  4. Continuous Operation Definition
“Continuous operation” means that the principal educational and training activities of the institution, for which accreditation or re-accreditation is sought, have proceeded as scheduled without interruption. Exceptions may be recognized in cases of natural disasters, civil disorder, or abrupt, unforeseeable changes in law or regulations affecting the institution. Exceptions may also be requested before the fact, with a valid justification provided to the Accrediting Commission. Applications must be submitted in a timely manner to allow proper consideration.
  5. Ownership and Control
The institution must have been under the same ownership and/or control for at least one year immediately prior to application. This requirement may be waived by the Accrediting Commission if acceptable documentation is provided.
  6. Commitment to ACHEC Policies
Upon application and accreditation, the institution must agree to abide by the ACHEC Bylaws, Principles of Ethics, Standards for Accreditation, Standards for Accreditation Quality, and all related policies and procedures. The institution must support the goals and integrity of the ACHEC accreditation process.
  7. Financial Responsibility
The institution must demonstrate a record of responsible financial management for a minimum of one year, with sufficient resources to maintain quality educational services and complete the instruction of all enrolled participants.
